Taxy Privacy Policy
Taxy is a tax estimate calculator. This page explains what happens to the information you enter and the information collected when you visit.
The short version
- Taxy has no accounts or logins.
- We don’t keep the numbers you enter on our servers.
- Your inputs and saved scenarios stay in your own web browser.
- We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising.
- The services that host and secure Taxy, such as Cloudflare, may collect basic technical and usage information when you visit.
What you enter
When you use the calculator, you may enter things like income, filing status, state, and withholding.
- Calculation. Your inputs are sent to our server so it can compute your estimate. The server returns the result and does not save your inputs or the result. Because the request passes through our hosting provider’s systems, your inputs do travel through them in transit.
- Saved on your device. Taxy remembers your current inputs, your saved scenarios (up to 3), and your state withholding entries so they’re there when you return. This is kept in your browser’s local storage on your own device. We never receive a copy for storage.
- What that means for you. Saved data isn’t available on other devices or browsers, and it can be lost if you clear your browser data. Anyone who can use your device and browser profile could see it.
Deleting your data
Clear your browser’s site data for Taxy (in most browsers: Settings → Privacy → Site data) and everything Taxy saved is removed. We have no copy, so we can’t recover it for you either.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, Taxy and the services that help run it may automatically collect technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and approximate location. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure, and understand how it’s used (for example, visit counts). It does not include the numbers you enter into the calculator, which we don’t store.
Cookies and similar technologies
Taxy itself stores your saved inputs and scenarios in your browser’s local storage, as described above. Our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, may also set its own cookies or similar identifiers to protect the site from abuse and to measure traffic. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, though some security features may work less smoothly.
Third-party services
Taxy uses third-party services to host, secure, and analyze the site, and to draw its charts. These providers may process the technical information described above under their own privacy policies.
- Cloudflare hosts and secures Taxy and may provide site analytics. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Google provides the charting library that draws the tax flow diagram. It is loaded from Google’s servers, so Google may receive your IP address and browser information when you use Taxy. See Google’s privacy policy.
We don’t give these providers the contents of your calculations beyond what passes through their systems to run the calculator.
What we don’t do
- We don’t ask for your name, email, Social Security number, or account details.
- We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising.
- We don’t keep the numbers you enter on our servers.
Not tax advice
Taxy gives estimates for general information. It isn’t tax, legal, or financial advice. Check your results with a qualified professional or the IRS before relying on them.
Changes
If Taxy changes how it handles data, for example by adding accounts, we’ll update this page and the effective date before the change goes live.
